We’ve got Facebook Check-Ins in the left corner, and Foursquare in the opposite corner. Let’s talk about each contenders first before this fight gets underway!
Let’s start with the veteran, Foursquare! Foursquare has been a player in the Check-In game from day one, in fact that has been their primary focus. With smartphones becoming more of a norm the availability of a check-in system based on the GPS coordinates in your phone was a must-have. Foursquare was really the first to join in, but it was just a matter of time before Facebook stepped into the ring. About this time last year ago in fact! With Facebook rapidly growing in popularity it was just a matter of time before it was an integral part of it. With all of our friends already there, why would we want to have to go to a new system like Foursquare to become friends again?
Fourquare has one big advantage in the business arena due to the integration of a coupon system. Businesses can sign-up and allow coupons to be posted to people that come and check-in. This is awesome because it utilizes social media to notify everyone of where you are which gives the business free marketing! Even though Facebook hasn’t enabled a coupon feature I’m sure it will come in time, although it may just never happen. The reason is because Foursquare has always let check-ins be their primary focus, so it just makes sense for them.
All right, let’s get back to the fight. *ding ding ding*
With Foursquare’s focus on check-ins they throw Facebook an uppercut to the jaw. Facebook dodges the blow with a slide to the right using the existing friend base that we already have. Things are getting exciting now. Foursquare is back with a shot to the stomach using their cool coupon system. Facebook tries to back away but isn’t quick enough with nothing to defend themselves. Oh wait, Facebook gets up quickly ready for the next shot. They’re both dancing around now playing things safe to see what the next move is. Stay tuned for part two.
